Advantages of affiliation to the IVVCC
The IVVCC represents over 5000 old car enthusiasts in Ireland. The single most important reason is strength in numbers. Solidarity will safeguard our hobby from inappropriate and unfair legislation. The annual affiliation fee is presently just €65, for which you get the following benefits:-
The IVVCC is affiliated to FIVA, the international governing body for the old car movement, and all clubs affiliated to the IVVCC come under the FIVA banner. There are over 1,000,000 members in FIVA affiliated clubs worldwide. The IVVCC pays an annual affiliation fee to FIVA which is funded by the fees paid by our affiliated clubs, and we rely on your continued support for this.
You can find out more about FIVA’s good work by visiting their website…FIVA.org You can subscribe free of charge to the FIVA online newsletter, events notification, and legislation updates here: FIVA online FIVA has a permanent representative in Brussels who keeps a watchful eye for proposed legislation that could potentially have an adverse effect on our old car movement. This representative can trigger any necessary process to oppose undesirable legislation or regulation. A specific board member of the IVVCC deals with all FIVA issues on behalf of the club and its affiliates.
Affiliated clubs events are included in the calendar of events and on this website and also appear in the quarterly IVVCC journal. The IVVCC Journal is sent to the secretaries of affiliated clubs. All members of these clubs can advertise in the journal; can participate in IVVCC events; and are welcome at the IVVCC’s First Monday meetings held in the West County Hotel, Chapelizod.
The IVVCC has worked hard over the years to secure reasonable insurance rates and options for old cars. Also, the IVVCC has successfully negotiated favourable old car arrangements with State departments resulting in reduced road tax, exemption from VRT for cars over thirty years old, and exemption from the NCT for pre-1980 cars. It is of great value to the IVVCC to have an extended membership across the country, giving political clout when lobbying on behalf of issues that affect our hobby.
Members of affiliated clubs wishing to also join the IVVCC may do so by forwarding a copy of their current affiliated club membership card along with the current annual €50 fee to the IVVCC Membership Secretary.
FIVA adopted a thirty year minimum age for the definition of an historic car from 1st January, 2010. The IVVCC decided to adopt this in a modified form to avoid exclusion of owners of cars that were over twenty five years old but not yet thirty. The IVVCC adopted a cut-off date of 31st December 1984 which remained in place until 31st December 2014, after which the thirty year rule will apply on a rolling basis (or whatever later rule supersedes it, if any).
